To read Liar’s Moon is to encounter a folk tale, tall tale, a terrific blue stretcher spun with fine style to reveal truths that can’t be put in any nutshell but are deeply felt, deeply appreciated. Kimball has given the legends of the old West his own fresh whirl and shake, and told us about it in great salty and poetic language, with scenes and characters you haven’t met before, and a governing intelligence that is subversive, acute, funny, and very brave.
